  • Line Management are obliged to accommodate the special needs of female staff members by responding sensitively and with flexibility to requests pertaining to pregnancy, adoption, childcare and family responsibility, where practicable.
  • Academic staff are obliged to accommodate the special needs of female students by responding sensitively and with flexibility to requests pertaining to pregnancy, adoption, childcare and family responsibility, where practicable.
  • If a female staff member perceives that she has been unfairly discriminated against in terms of this Policy, she should, in good faith follow the Staff grievance policy and procedure.
  • Staff who are alleged perpetrators of unfair gender discrimination, will be subject to the NMMU Staff disciplinary procedure and code: Guideline.
  • If a female student perceives that she has been unfairly discriminated against in terms of this Policy, she should, in good faith follow the recourse that is available to students to lodge their grievances.
  • Students who are alleged perpetrators of unfair gender discrimination, will be subject to the NMMU Student disciplinary procedure and code.
  • Unfair gender discrimination is considered a serious offence, a gross violation of fundamental rights and detrimental to the status of the NMMU.
